Vidarbha: 9 farmers commit suicide in 4 days
Nagpur, Apr 6: As many as nine debt-ridden farmers committed suicide during the first five days of April in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, activists have said.
According to Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation working among farmers in the region, the nine farmers included three each from Yavatmal and Akola districts, two from Buldhana and one from Washim district. With this, the number of farmers who have taken the extreme step during 2008 had touched 255, a VJAS press release here said.
