284 more cases settled by Lok Adalat in Kashmir
Srinagar, Apr 6 (UNI) Encouraged by speedy justice, more people in the Kashmir valley are turning to Lok adalats to settle their decades old cases.
Thousands of cases pending in different courts in the valley for several decades were settled by these lok adalats since January this year.
As many as 284 cases were settled amicably in adalats by a tehsil legal service committee in south Kashmir during the past one year.
A Lok Adalat was organised by Tehsil Legal Services Committee at Court complex Ashimuqam, Pahalgam in which 5 cases out of 23 were settled amicably.
During last year 280 cases out of 395 was settled and Rs 16,800 was distributed as legal aid by the adalat.
An official spokesman said a Lok Adalat was being organised in the District Court complex Baramulla on April 24, 2008 which would be presided by Principal District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Ghulam Nabi.
He said matters with regard to matrimonial, motor-accident, civil suits and traffic challans would be taken up for on-the-spot decision.
