PAC appeals for ceasefire, reconciliation among Naga factions
Kohima, Apr 5 (UNI) The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) and the Nagaland government have urged the Naga underground groups to maintain peace and unity as per the wishes of the people.
Official sources said here today that the PAC and DAN, which held a meeting here yesterday, appealed to the groups for ceasefire and reconciliation among the different underground factions and stop the fratricidal killings.
The joint meeting also called upon all sections of the society to work towards reconciliation and unity among the Naga national groups so as to build a united Naga family.
Towards this end, the state government would extend all possible support to the Reconciliation Forum that was formed by the civil societies and the Church.
The meeting urged the civil societies, tribal hohos, the Eastern Naga Peoples Organisation and Church organisations to extend support towards reconciliation process.
The meeting resolved to support the ongoing peace process and the Indo-Naga political dialogue, while at the same time it also appealed to the negotiation parties to expedite the peace process in order to bring about a logical and honourable settlement that is acceptable to the Naga people.
Reiterating its declared commitment to pave the way, the DAN government assured the people that it would relinquish power in the event of an alternative arrangement that may be necessitated by the successful conclusion of the Indo-Naga political dialogue.
The joint meeting also resolved that the state government will work and support the cause of the Eastern Nagas in Myanmar so that they get due political recognition and political rights within their traditional territory in the country, sources said.
