MIPF urges MPA govt to amend Land Transfer Act
Shilllong, Apr 5 (UNI) The Meghalaya Indigenous People's Forum (MIPF) has asked the state government to amend the Land Transfer Act (LTA) by involving traditional institutions in the process of granting permission for transfer of land.
''The amendment to the LTA, 1991, has not taken into consideration the role of traditional institutions in connection with granting of permission by the state government for transfer of land in Meghalaya,'' an MIPF statement said here today.
Pointing out that in the absence of any provisions in the Act for the legal role of traditional institutions in matters of land transfer, the MIPF alleged that the authorities were misguiding people by claiming that the consent of traditional institutions had been obtained for land deals.
