HC rescues 43 Rajasthani bonded labourers from brick kiln

Fatehabad, Apr 5 (UNI) Warrant officers of the Punjab and Haryana High Courts today raided a brick kiln in Kanheri village in this district and freed 43 bonded labourers hailing from Rajasthan.

The freed labourers have now left for their native villages in the neighbouring desert state.

According to police sources, the families of these labourers had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court by way of a Habeas Corpus writ petition.

The families had alleged that the brick kiln owners had been keeping their men as bonded labourers and were not allowing them to visit their families.

Warrant Officers Ish Kumar and Arun Luthra reached the Tohana city police station last evening and showed the warrants issued by the High Court to the police officers on duty.

The warrant officers today proceeded to the brick kiln Tara Chand Chhottu Ram and Sons, situated in Kanheri village today with police force and freed 43 labourers from there.

The warrant officers then allowed the labourers to proceed towards their native villages in Rajasthan after noting down their names and addresses.
