Deccan ties up with ICICI Lombard for insurance cover

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 5: Country's first low-cost carrier Deccan and ICICI Lombard General Insurance today launched a flight and domestic travel insurance scheme, offering security against travel loss.

In a release here today, Deccan said the domestic travel insurance, covering medical expense for accident, possible loss from ticket cancellation and lost/delayed baggage, costs Rs 99 a person.

The policy had been made available from April one and can be purchased on the Deccan website www.airdeccan.net while booking flight tickets.

The insurance policy provides for refund of medical expenses up to Rs 75,000 within 24 hours of any physical injury, refund of cost of Deccan tickets up to Rs 10,000 if a medical emergency or natural calamity interrupted the trip, compensation for loss of an entire piece of check-in baggage for a maximum of two baggages at Rs 5,000 a bag and refund of Rs 3,000 a bag if check-in baggage was delayed beyond six hours at a destination, the release added.

The release said insurance coverage for hospitalisation caused by an accident was available if the insurance holder was travelling by another airline too. However, other coverage were limited only to Deccan flights.

The travel insurance can be cancelled following cancellation of flight ticket and in case of a rescheduled ticket, the insurance would be active from the new date of travel. The policy would be valid for 30 days from the date of inception of the policy, which would also be the date of travel. In case of round trip, the insurance would be valid till the date of return or 30 days, whichever is earlier, it added.
