Badal asks young law graduates to defend poor and needy
Mohali, Apr 5 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today called upon the advocates and jurists to play a pro-active role in the society for the dispensation of affordable and speedy justice for the poor and needy.
Addressing the law students on the 2nd Annual Convocation of the Army Institute of Law (AIL) here, Mr Badal urged the passed out law graduates to be considerate while taking up the cases of poor clients as nobody should be denied justice for the want of money.
The Chief Minister rued that now a days advocate were charging fee at exorbitant rate which was beyond one's paying capacity.
"As a young lawyers you should at least take up 10 per cent of the total cases free of cost especially of poor," he said.
While congratulating the students, Mr Badal urged the students to strive towards excellence and contribute constructively towards national development and certainly not to forget their ethics and principles.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister assured the faculty of AIL to refer the case for upgrading its status as a deemed university to the sub committee headed by Chief Secretary.
He said if the institute conforms all the requisite conditions for the deemed university then the state government would bring legislation in the Assembly to establish it as a law university.
