AIREA calls for declaring PUSA 1121 as Basmati Rice

Karnal, Apr 5 (UNI) All India Rice Exporters Association (AIREA) has given a clarion call to all the state governments to declare PUSA 1121 as Basmati Rice.

AIREA president Vijay Setia, while speaking in a press conference here today, said the matter had also been taken up with the Central Government, which is awaiting a nod by the Ministry of Commerce.

He said states should take a lead in declaring PUSA 1121 as Basmati on the pattern of Punjab government to provide maximum benefit to the farmers before the sowing season.

The declaration of PUSA 1121 as Basmati would expand its market internationally especially in Europe, Mr Setia said.

Exhorting the Haryana government to take the lead, Mr Setia said, out of all Basmati grown in Haryana 60 per cent is Pusa 1121.
