Pakistani lawyers demand Attorney General Qayyum's resignation

Lahore, Apr 4 : Pakistan's Lawyer associations on Friday demanded the Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani Government to remove Malik Muhammad Qayyum immediately from the Attorney General of Pakistan's post.

The association said that Qayyum was conspiring to create hurdles in the way of restoration of judges.

This was stated by the representatives of Supreme Court Bar Association, High Court Bar and Lahore Bar while addressing a joint press conference here.

Lawyers said that there a precedent that after the formation of the new government the previous Attorney General resigns and this is why it is important to remove Qayyum from his post.

"We will not accept curtailment in judges' employment tenure or any other such package," The News quoted, the lawyers as saying.

They also demanded that the elected political parties should restore the judiciary to pre-November 3 position without any condition.
