Delhi Police braces itself for Olympic Torch relay
New Delhi, Apr 4 (UNI) The Delhi Police have put in place a massive security arrangement ahead of the Olympic Torch relay in the backdrop of possible attempts to disrupt the event by Tibetan activists.
''All precautions will be taken to ensure smooth conduct of the relay,'' Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said here.
Meanwhile, sources said police personnel in plan clothes will keep a close watch on Tibetan leaders to thrawt any attempt by them to disrupt the programme on April 17. The anti-terrorist and anti-sabotage units would also be in place to ensure fool-proof security for the international event.
The route for the relay has already been shortened in the wake of threat perceptions.
The Olympic Games torch will pass through Delhi instead of Mumbai, according to a change in the global route plan of the torch relay for the August 2008 Beijing Games.
While as per the earlier plan, the event was to commence at Red Fort around 1500 hrs and culminate at India Gate around 1700 hrs, covering a distance of nine km, a revised plan has shortened the route to three km.
