Bush administration has tunnel vision of Pakistan, says American HR lawyer

Washington, Apr 4 : The US had a tunnel vision about Pakistan, as around six years ago it decided to back President Pervez Musharraf but failed to examine the conduct of US foreign policy and what it was getting in return for its support, a human rights lawyer in the US has written in an analytical piece.

Human rights lawyer Lisa Gans writes in the analysis that despite the billions of dollars in aid the US has given to Pakistan over the past six years, Musharraf has failed to explain exactly what specific benefit he has provided to the US.

Recent events in Pakistan show that the Bush administration was wrong to say that Musharraf was the country's and the world's best hope for fighting extremism in Pakistan, the Daily Times quoted her saying in the piece.

She adds that despite Bush's warnings, radical terrorists have not engulfed the county, and the new government has committed itself to continuing the fight against terrorism.
