5 SIMI workers nabbed in MP town

Jabalpur, Apr 4 (UNI) Five active workers of the banned Students' Islamic Movement of India, who sheltered SIMI office-bearers and assisted them, were arrested here today.

''After the nabbing of SIMI workers at Indore and Ujjain, information was received about SIMI presence here. A local police team was sent to Indore for interrogating the workers,'' Superintendent of Police Makrand Deuskar said at a press conference this evening.

Interrogation revealed that Sheikh Sarfaraz, Mohammad Shafiq, Mohammad Yunus, Ghiyasuddin and Naseer Ahmad Ansari were used for expanding SIMI activities here and helping -- directly or indirectly -- SIMI workers incarcerated at the Central Jail.

''The five were apprehended in Gohalpur area. Sarfaraz was found to be in possession of a Urdu letter written by SIMI's Abdullah from Mumbai. The missive makes it clear that the accused had links with SIMI workers jailed in Gujarat,'' the officer added.
