MCX clocks total turnover of Rs 3,684.04 cr

Mumbai, Apr 3 (UNI) The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has clocked a total turnover of Rs 3,684.04 crore and 56,645 trades.

MCX Comdex, the composite index of metals, energy and agro-commodities, was up by 0.17 pc at 2654.14 points. Agri gained 1.29 pc at 1645.70 points.

Gold clocked a turnover of Rs 1441.87 crore, helped by volume of 12,370 kgs and open interest of 7,471 kgs. Silver turnover was Rs 775.14 crore with a volume of 3,46,655 kgs and open interest of 2,14,240 kgs. Bullion contracts received some battering as gold June 08 contract fell by 0.31 pc at Rs 11,612 per 10 grams and August 08 contract by 0.30 pc at Rs 11,650 per 10 grams. Yet two silver contracts silver M November 08 contract up 2.90 pc at Rs 23,201 per kg and silver M August 08 contract up by 1.34 pc at Rs 22,950 per kg.

Metal contracts followed the losing trail. But Bar zinc June 08 contract gained by 1.06 pc at Rs 95.50 per kg. Nickel June 08 contract shed 3.17 pc at Rs 1,160 per kg. Aluminum May 08 contract suffered a setback of 1.40 pc at Rs 116.05 per kg.

CFI contracts gained even as December 09 contract was up by 1.95 pc at Rs 1,541 per tonne. In crude oil, four contracts gained, while two contracts remained unchanged at their previous level.

Crude oil July 08 contract posted a gain of 3.83 pc at Rs 4,122 per barrel.

Agri contracts were marked by a mixed trend. All sugarsklp contracts and potato Agra contracts moved down. Chana, jute and potato TRWR contracts improved. Cardamom June 08 contract rose by 3.13 pc at Rs 560.50 per kg and pepper April 08 contract 2 pc at Rs 14,406 per quintal.

Refsoyoil April 08 contract topped the list of gainers with a rise of 4 pc at Rs 566.85 per 10 kgs and cardamom June 08 contract by 3.13 pc at Rs 560.50 per kg.

Refsoyoil July 08 topped the list of losers with a 3.75 pc at Rs 568.75 per 10 kgs and potato June 08 shrank by 1.25 pc at Rs 464.70 per quintal.

Gold June 08 contract clocked a volume of 11,588 kgs and nickel April 08 contract 573,000 kgs, MCX release said.
