Islamabad, Apr 3 : The new Yousuf Raza Gilani government in Pakistan has removed Musharraf's man Maj Gen Nadeem Ijaz as DG of Military Intelligence (MI), and appointed Maj Gen Mohammad Asif in his place.
Ijaz is considered a key man of President Pervez Musharraf and played a major role in decisions that sparked a judicial crisis last year.
Following the judicial crisis after sacking of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chowdhary, Ijaz had in an affidavit submitted to the pre-PCO Supreme Court claimed that Chaudhry wanted President Musharraf to dissolve the provincial Assemblies and hold elections under his supervision.
Ijaz has now been posted as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Bahawalpur.
ISPR director general Maj-Gen Athar Abbas confirmed the posting.
Maj-Gen Ijaz was appointed as DG Military Intelligence by Musharraf in his capacity as the army chief.
