DMK men burn effigies of K'taka leaders
Madurai, Apr 3 (UNI) The ruling DMK cadres burnt the effigies of Karnataka leaders at two places, as a retaliatory action against the violent incidents in the neighbouring state over Hogenakkal Drinking Water Project, here today.
Police said a group of DMK volunteers burnt the effigy of BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister B S Yeddiyurappa at Pykara in the city. Police arrested 20 DMK men in this connection.
In another incident, the DMK cadres also burnt the effigy of Kannada leader Vattal Nagaraj near Periyar Bus Stand.
A farmhouse owned by Kannada film actor Vishnuvardhan was ransacked by a group of ruling DMK men near Bomminaickenpatti in Periyakulam taluk in Theni district.
The actor used to stay in his farmhouse during vacation along with his family members.
The agitators broke open the compound gate and entered the farmhouse. They damaged the glass windows of the farmhouse and also flowerpots.
They also burnt the effigy of Vishnuvardhan and raised anti-Karnataka slogans.
On information, police rushed to the spot and chased away the mob. Police protection was given to the farmhouse.
