Pugwash meet stresses that Indo-Pak dialogue process continue

Jammu, Apr 2 (UNI) The two-day Pugwash conference emphasised that the dialogue process between India and Pakistan be continued to restore peace.

Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Amitabh Mattoo, on his return from the conference held on March 29-30 at Islamabad in Pakistan, also said 'democratic ' set ups are the only solution to restore 'peace' and harmony in South Asia.

Democracy all around in the region can only bring peace in South Asia.

''To restore long lasting peace, only 'democracy' can help in maintaining it in all the region,'' Prof Mattoo said, adding no wars have been reported in the regions having democratic set up for the last 150 years.

''Fifty delegates, representing different groups and fractions, participated in a two-day Pugwash conference, which discussed the 'regional security','' the VC said.

Prof Mattoo termed Pugwash as a forum that generates ideas to discuss sensitive issues and throw open new subjects, to cement civil society and to carry forward the composite dialogues.
