No change in Mumbai Airport's name, Shivaji statue to remain

New Delhi, Apr 2 (UNI) The Government today clarified that the name of Mumbai Airport will continue to be Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and the statue of Shivaji will not be shifted from there, keeping in mind the local sensibilities.

Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel has directed the promoters of the Mumbai International Airport Ltd, (MIAL) to keep in mind the local sensibilities while undertaking the upgradation and modernisation of the Mumbai Airport.

''He has given clear directions that no changes are to be made to the airport, which hurt local sentiments,'' an official statement said.

The Ministry denied allegations that the Government had given permission for the change of the name of the airport and location of the Shivaji statue.

''The name of the airport will continue to remain Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai and the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji will always remain at the International airport,'' the statement added.
