More than 325 shopkeepers fined in Kashmir
Srinagar, Apr 2 (UNI) More than 325 shopkeepers were booked and fined for violating Weights and Measures Act (WMA) in the Kashmir valley, official sources said today.
They said the checking squad of Legal Metrology department during its inspection of markets in Sopore, Rafiabad, Bandipora and Sumbal tehsils in north Kashmir collected fine of more than Rs one lakh from 321 traders for various violations of Weights and Measures Act.
They said the department also collected Rs 94,400 as stamping fee from the shopkeepers and stamped 19,847 pieces of weights and measures.
The checking squad of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution headed by Deputy Director, inspected various markets of Nishat, Shalimar, Brein and Dalgate, they added.
During the inspection, 5 shopkeepers were booked under Weights and Measures Act by the squad.
In addition, Rs 6000 have been recovered from the 15 erring shopkeepers on the spot under Essential Commodities Act (ECA).
