Mediapersons organise a protest rally
Chandigarh, Apr 2 (UNI) Newspersons held a rally here today, protesting against the ill-treatment meted out to journalists covering the police lathicharge on female anganwadi workers at Bathinda on March 27.
They took out a procession in Sector 17 and raised slogans against the Punjab Government and the Bhatinda Police. A memorandum was submitted to the Punjab Governor through Tehsildar, Chandigarh.
Addressing the protestors, senior journalists said the action of the Punjab government in trying to muzzle the voice of the Press was condemnable and newspersons would not tolerate this silently.
They said all attempts of the government to gag the Press would be strongly rebutted. They demanded that the government punished the erring police officials involved in the incident.
