Madrassa head arrested, mulvi booked for child singeing
Sangrur, Apr 2 (UNI) Police today arrested head of the Jamalpur madrassa, Abdul Rasheed, in connection with the brutal singeing and battering of a six-year-old student.
The main accused in the case, known as 'maulvi saheb' who singed the boy, Isshfaq, on chest, ear and back and beat him up before locking him up in a room, has been absconding since the incident came to light late last evening.
Ishfaq, son of a poor local driver, was meted out the brutal punishment for failing to attend the day-break 'namaz' in the boarding madrassa.
The boy who was in a semiconscious state was rescued by his uncle, Salim, who had come to meet him just by chance. He immediately informed the police and got the child admitted in a hospital.
The police had registered a case under sections 323, 324, 341, 506 of IPC against the head of the madrassa and the maulvi, DSP Malerkotla Gurpreet Singh said, adding that the absconding maulvi would be nabbed soon.
