HC directs Corporation not to dump garbage in Perungudi area
Chennai, Apr 2 (UNI) The Madras High Court today directed the Chennai Corporation not to dump garbage on either side of the road in Perungudi area.
Admitting a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam General Secretary Hyder Ali, the First Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Ms Justice Prabha Sridevan also directed the Coporation to remove the garbage already dumped on either side of the road within four weeks.
The bench also directed the state government to take appropriate steps to remove all the encroachments on Pallikaranai marshland under the Tamil Nadu Land Encroachment Act, 1905.
In his petition, Mr Hyder Ali submitted that the dumping of garbage was polluting ground water in area and the people living in the surrounding areas were finding it difficult to utilise the ground water for their normal life.
The petitioner prayed the court to restrain the Corporation from using the land in Pallikaranai village in Kanchipuram District for dumping municipal waste.
