Funds a major hurdle for education: Achary
Kannur, Apr 2 (UNI) One of the major bottlenecks for improving the quality of education in India is lack of resources, Lok Sabha Secretary General P D T Achary said today.
He was inaugurating the 12th Foundation Day of Kannur University at Thalassery Palayad Campus here and delivering a lecture on ''Education in India, yesterday, today and tommorrow.'' The National Policy on Education insisted that six per cent of the GDP be spent on education but ''we have not been able to invest more than 3.38 per cent of the GDP for the purpose.'' The investment in the higher education was just 0.7 per cent of the GDP which should have been at least 1.5 per cent, he added.
