DUTA demands probe in Ambedkar college incident

New Delhi, Apr 2 (UNI) Condemning police action on DUTA activists in B R Ambedkar College, the Association today alleged that the ''assault'' was carried out at the instance of the Principal.

It demanded a ''comprehensive probe'' into the incident, to expose the ''dictatorial behaviour'' of Ambedkar College Principal G K Arora.

On March 28, DUTA members, including women teachers, were staging a sit in at the college campus in protest against the violation of University Ordinance by the Principal on composition of Lecturer Selection Committee in the English Department.

''Police violence at the instance of Principal G K Arora was unprovoked....DUTA is aghast at the dictatorial and shameless behaviour of the Principal for refusing a dialogue with the DUTA office bearers on statutory position of teacher-incharge on the selection Committee,'' DUTA president Aditya Narayan Misra said after an emergent meeting of the Association executive members.

''An attempt has been made to violate the rules, regulations and ordinances of the Delhi University,'' he added.

He alleged that the Principal, police and university officials are working in a ''nexus'' to ''unleash a reign of terror in the college''.

A demonstration will be staged in before the next meeting of the DU Executive Council to confront the Vice Chancellor on the issue.
