Debt-ridden son commits suicide like father
Sangrur, Apr 2 (UNI) Burdened by the debt taken by his late father who was also driven to suicide, a 23-year-old impoverished farmer today ended his life by consuming some lethal pesticide in Jalan village in the district.
He leaves behind his mother and two unmarried sisters.
According to the police, deceased Pargat Singh's father, Hakam Singh had also committed suicide few years back allegedly due to the debt taken from a local arahtia (commission agent).
After the death of his father, Pargat signed a settlement letter with Mangat, however, when he failed to pay the money as per the agreement, the arhatia, Mangat Ram, got a case registered against him.
The victim's mother Karamjeet Kaur, has said that to get relief from the court case proceeding against him Pargat had written to different authorities including the Chief Minister and Punjab State Human Rights Commission. However, when his efforts bore no results, he committed suicide.
The police has registered a case under section 306 and 34 IPC.
