Congress supports Pranab on Tibet issue

New Delhi, Apr 2: The Congress today defended External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee who had reportedly urged Tibetan Spiritual Leader Dalai Lama not to engage in any political activity in India where he has been given asylum.

"The Indian government believes in one-China policy," AICC Spokesman Manish Tewari told mediapersons, while pointing out that "this has been a consistent policy of the government, irrespective of which party is in power." Mr Tewari said Dalai Lama was a religious leader who was held in high esteen not only in India, but also the world over.
