CITU-sponsored HPL strike on April 8 deferred

Haldia, Apr 2 (UNI) The CITU-backed Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL) Employees' Union today deferred the 24-hour April 8 strike.

Talking to newspersons here, CITU state committee member Ashok Pattnaik said, '' This positive gesture will ensure continued harmony and relationship to mutually resolve the issues through discussions. Representative of the union and the management would resume talks on the issues soon to arrive at an amicable solution. '' He said, ''Goodwill gesture from General Manager S S Moitra along with a request letter from him inviting CITU to sit with the HPL for a settlement has inspired them to defer the proposed strike. A final decision can be taken only when local CPI (M) MP and East Midnapur district CITU president Laxman Seth returns from Coimbatore after April 4.'' Meanwhile, the Nationalist Trade Union Circles felt the strike call was nothing but a ''hoax'' to show the casual workers in the HPL that the CITU was really interested in their full time employment.
