TVS Motor March sales down 8.7 per cent at 1,17,045 units

New Delhi, Apr 1 (UNI) Country's third-biggest motorcycle maker, TVS Motor Co Ltd, today said its sales decreased by 8.7 per cent at 1,17,045 units sold in March 2008, compared to 1,28,207 units a year ago.

During the month, the company's motorcycle sales fell by 16.83 per cent at 60,908 units in comparison to 73,239 units recorded in March 2007. In the scooter segment, the company recorded a sales of 15,942 units in March 2008 in comparison to 20,297 units in the corresponding period the previous year, a decrease of 21.45 per cent.

The company said the exports reported sales of 13,070 units of two wheelers in March 2008 as against 8508 units in the corresponding period of the previous year a growth of 54 per cent.

''The company strengthened its presence in the executive segment with the launch of the TVS Flame 125cc motorcycle powered by three-valve, dual induction system, CCVTi engine. TVS Motor Company will also launch the fuel injection upgrade of the Apache RTR across the country in April 2008,'' a statement said.

With these launches, the company hopes to leverage on a wholesome product portfolio to reverse the current trend in sales in the financial year 2008-2009, the statement added.

The company also launched its three wheeler, the TVS King in LPG and Petrol Versions. It is India's first 200 cc two-stroke auto rickshaw, loaded with superior features and equipped with electric start.
