TRS asks Govt to rename Intl airport after Narasmha Rao

Hyderabad, Apr 1 (UNI) Telangana Rashtra Samiti(TRS) legislator M Satyanarayana today demanded that the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport be renamed after son of the soil and another former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao.

Participating in the discussion on the no confidence motion against the Rajasekhara Reddy Government on the penultimate day, the TRS leader said the ruling Congress had already named a large number of schemes after Rajiv Gandhi. ''It will be appropriate to christen the airport after Narasimha Rao'', he added.

A large number of projects had also been named after former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao, Mr Satyanarayana recalled, adding that there was no need to name the domestic terminal after Mr Rao, as demanded by the TDP.

Later, BJP Floor leader G Kishan Reddy, questioned as to how the Congress Government could invite its party President Sonia Gandhi for inauguration of the airport.

Intervening, the matter Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah maintained that she was also the Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government at the Centre. Moreover, the invitation was extended by the GMR, which had constructed the airport, a public private partnership(PPP) initiative.
