Take steps to resolve AFT mills workers problem: PMK leader

Puducherry, Apr 1 (UNI) PMK parliamentary party leader Prof M Ramadass today urged the territorial administration to take immediate steps to resolve the problems of the government-owned AFT mills workers, who are on an indefinite relay fast for the last seven days.

In a statement here today, he said the government should invite the workers representatives for a discussion immediately.

The issue of the workers should be handed over to a judge with good knowledge ot labour laws and get a report within 15 days to sort out the problems, he said adding it would not be fair to have different Dearness Allowace policy in a same institution.

Urging the administration to bring all the five textile mills here under a common umberlla to resolve the problems faced by each, he said funds should be obtained either from Centre or the World Bank for the purpose. Bringing all the mills under one umbrella would help to reduce loss and ensure that the mills make profits.

He also urged the administration to get in touch with the Home Ministry to resolve the problems of the Bharathi and Swadeshi mills here.
