Sandalwood, rosewood worth crores seized

Mangalore, Apr 1 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized sandalwood and rosewood logs, worth over Rs five crore, from a container containing tiles at New Mangalore Port near here today.

Sources said the sandalwood and rosewood logs were found hidden inside one of the four containers of tiles meant to be transported to a gulf country.

All the four containers were booked by a local tile manufacturing unit.

Following the seizure, two customs officials were suspended for alleged dereliction of duty, the sources said.
