Pehowa shuts down in protest over trader family's suicide

Pehowa, Apr 1 (UNI) Markets remained closed in Pehowa town of Kurukshetra district in Haryana in protest against the suicide of a local businessman Maam Chand and eight other members of his family.

According to police sources, no untoward incident has been reported from the city and security arrangements have been tightened there.

All the bodies, including that of Maam Chand, have been recovered from the Bhakra Nahar.

Mamchand was missing since March 16 from Pehowa. Before leaving their house in a car, the family had written a suicidal note in which they mentioned the names of 21 people who were allegedly responsible for their act. All the bodies were sent to PGI at Rohtak for postmortem.

The relatives of Maamchand staged protests yesterday, when Haryana agriculture minister Harmohinder Singh Chathha visited the spot. They also expressed their unhappiness over the inaction of police.
