Lawyers lock KSRTC booking centre, stage demonstration
Madurai, Apr 1 (UNI) Protesting against pro-Kannada groups for vandalising theatres, screening Tamil movies over the Hogenakkal Integrated Water Project, a section of lawyers affiliated to Tamil Nadu Advocates Association, forcibly locked a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) booking office at Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Stand, detained KSRTC buses and staged a demonstration, here today.
The lawyers numbering more than 50 came into the Mattuthavani bus stand and forcibly locked the KSRTC booking office. An employee of the KSRTC, who was on duty, was forced to stay inside the office, before the agitators locked the office.
Three KSRTC buses parked in the bus stand was detained and even some of the lawyers climbed over the bus roofs and raised slogans against Kannada groups for targeting Tamils.
Before the Cops could arrive at the bus stand, they defaced the KSRTC name board inscribed on the buses with Tar.
As tension mounted in the bus stand, policemen rushed to the spot, arrested all the agitators and restored normalcy.
Later, the cops opened the KSRTC booking office and set free the employee. Additional police personnel were posted in Mattuthavani bus stand to prevent further trouble. Police protection was also given to the KSRTC booking office.
