Huge sandalwood haul seized from container bound for Gulf

Mangalore, Apr 1 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence today seized sandalwood and rose wood worth over Rs. five crore hidden in container containing tiles at New Mangalore Port at Panambur near here.

According sources, among the four containers of tiles meant to be transported to a gulf country, the sandalwood and rose wood was hidden in one of the containers. All the four containers were booked by a local tiles unit.

Two custom officials had been kept under suspension for alleged dereliction of duty in connection with the seizure, the sources said.
