Farmers protest shifting of market

Kanpur, Apr 1 (UNI) Demanding space in the new wholesale potato vegetable and fruit market being shifted to Charkarpur from Kidwai Nagar, farmers here staged a demonstration near new mandi spot today.

According to Sachendi police, the Mandi Samiti had alloted land for shops to registered traders, while the villagers whose land were acquired were not given any space.

The Samiti had ordered shifting of the wholesale markets from Kidwai Nagar to Chakarapur in Sachandi area.

The traders of Kidwai Nagar mandi were on an indefinate strike by closing their shops since yesterday.

The farmers of Chakarpur village, whose land was aquired, also gheraoed some officials of the Samiti, but the Sachendi police denied such reports.

Heavy police force had been garrisoned in Chakarpur Mandi to avoid any violence.
