Manipur: Engineer shot dead in Imphal

Imphal, April 1: An Assistant Engineer of the Manipur Public Works Department (PWD) was shot dead by suspected militants at Utlou Kangjeibung Maning Leikai in Bishenpur district.

Police said here today that Assistant Engineer Keisam Nabachandra of Bishnupur PWD later succumbed to his injuries at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, (RIMS), Imphal, last night.

The Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (City Meitei) was suspected to be responsible for the crime, police added.

Meanwhile, the PWD office at Imphal was being guarded by CRPF personnel and entry of people was thoroughly checked.

In another incident, three cement-laden trucks, belonging to the BRTF, were destroyed at Nongmaiching Nungoi, Imphal East yesterday, police added.
