CPI(ML) condemns LF's 'inaction' on nuke deal
Agartala, Apr 01 (UNI) Ultra left CPI (ML) today criticised the CPI(M) and CPI for their 'inaction' over the recent statement of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the Indo-US nuclear deal.
Addressing mediapersons here CPI(ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharjee charged the Left parties with becoming 'power-crazy'.
''Resultantly, the party congresses of both CPI and CPI (M) did not announce any agitational programme against the statement of Mr Mukherjee who gave all indications that India would go ahead with the nuclear deal with the US,'' he rued.
''The Congress led government at the Centre is just playing with time. It decided to go for signing the deal, while the Left parties have only been threatening to withdraw support from the UPA government but was practically inactive at the crucial moment,'' Mr Bhattacharjee said.
Since the Left supported the UPA they should also take responsibility of all good and bad deeds of the government, he added.
Referring to fresh demands of Gorkhaland in West Bengal by the GJMM-GNLF combine, Mr Bhattacharjee favoured giving autonomy to the district council to function as a 'state-within-the state'.
He pointed out that as devolution of power to the district councils of the state's northeast was not implemented properly, it triggered resentment among a section of tribal communities and led to creation of unrest in the region.
''If separate states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarkhand can emerge, why not the demand of autonomy of the district councils be granted?'' he questioned. He also demanded withdrawal of the armed forces special power act from the country's northeast.
