CPI (M) for equidistance from Cong, BJP
Coimbatore, Apr 1 (UNI) The 19th Congress of the CPI(M) today declared the party would maintain equidistance from the Congress and the BJP, while taking the initiative for launching a third alternative front.
The CPI(M), in its political resolution, said it would not enter into any alliance or form any united front with the Congress.
Accusing the BJP-RSS combine of spearheading communal forces in the country, it said the CPI(M) would continue to adopt tactics for isolating and defeating them.
The political resolution was adopted on the fourth day of the Congress after party general secretary Prakash Karat replied to the marathon discussions.
The discussion, which began yesterday afternoon, concluded this forenoon, after the steering committee accepted 43 of the 306 amendments suggested by the delegates.
Briefing newspersons on the deliberations, Party Politbureau Member S Ramchandran Pillai said all the amendments suggested by the delegates sought to improve the formulation and strengthen the draft. The resolution was adopted unanimously, he added.
