Cong criticises Karunanidhi on Hogenakkal water issue

Bangalore, Apr 1: Coming down heavily on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his remarks on Hogenakkal issue, Congress in Karnataka today accused him (Mr Karunanidhi) of making 'politics' out of it and urged him to shun from issuing any provocative statements which would hit the very basic 'Federal Structure' of the country.

Addressing newsmen here, Mr Kharge charged that Mr Karnuanidhi has indulged in 'narrow politics' which would hurt the very fundamental of the federal structure of the country. Stating that Karantaka has never come in the way in denying drinking water and brought to the notice of Tamil Nadu state government that it had given away 5 Tmc of water of its share from Krishna for drinking water need of the citizens of Chennai. "It is a different story that Andhra Pradesh government misused Karnataka's gesture by enlarging the purpose of Telugu-Ganga project" Mr Kharge said.

Appealing to Mr Karunanidhi not to make any provocative statement on Hogenakkal issue, Mr Kharge announced that Congress in Karnataka will do all its best to protect the 'interests of the people of the state'. "Mr Karnuanidhi, being a seasoned politician and one of the tallest political leaders in the country he should not see the Hogenkal issue narrowly" Mr Kharge said.
