CM announces allowance for elected panchayat representatives

Patna, Apr 1 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced to pay allowances to elected representatives of the three-tier panchayati raj institutions, gram kachahri and civic bodies' representatives.

Mr Kumar made this announcement in both Upper and Lower Houses of the state legislature. He said the panchayati raj institutions and the civic bodies were being entrusted with several responsibilities to discharge which they were being strengthened and empowered.

The representatives had to attend meetings for discharging their duties and the government had decided to pay them monthly allowances of different nature including that of travel and meetings allowance.

The government had sanctioned special allowancs to other backward caste, SC/ST men and women and general category women representatives living under BPL.

Mr Kumar said the scheme was being launched from today and over Rs 93 crores would be spent on it.
