Centre releases Rs.541 crore for industrialisation of NE states
Shillong, Apr 1 (UNI) The Centre has released Rs.541 crore for the industrialisation in the North Eastern region, an official statement said today.
The UPA government has released an amount of Rs.766 crore upto March 31, of which Rs.541 crore have been released on March 29 for industrial units and to clear the backlog and speed up the industrialisation in the North Eastern states, the statement said.
With the announcement of Transport Subsidy Scheme, the statement said, industrialisation in the region did get an impetus but the pace was quite slow.
However, it stated that ever since the inception of the scheme till 2004, only Rs.507.61 crore were released in 31 years for the landlocked region.
In order to promote industrialisation in the remote, hilly and inaccessible areas, the Centre had introduced the Transport Subsidy Scheme.
The scheme is presently applicable to fourteen states/Union Territories including eight North Eastern states. The scheme provides for subsidy upto 90 per cent of the cost incurred on transportation of raw material and finished goods, for a maximum period of 5 years.
