Brave cop saves two people from drowning
Kaithal, Apr 1 (UNI) A brave police constable risking his own life saved two persons from drowning in Main Bhakra canal near Azimgarh village of this district today .
A police spokesman said that a man aged about 30 slipped into Bhakra canal adjoining police post near Azimgarh village. The victim's cries attracted passersby and a man from the crowd and later identified as Ajit Rahi jumped into the canal to save the victim.
However, due to strong current of water Ajit, too, set for drowning and he started crying for help.
Noticing two persons drowning constable Shakti Singh, driver of official vehicle of DSP Guhla, not caring for his life jumped into the canal and after some struggle he successfully rescued both the persons and brought them out of canal.
The huge crowd gathered at the spot highly appreciated the courageous cop.
SSP Anil Kumar Rao later honoured the cop with a commendation certificate and cash prize of Rs 1,000. He recommended the name of constable to IG Ambala range for suitable award for his act of bravery.
The other person saved had been identified as Raj Singh, a resident of shafabadi gate Patiala . He was immediately provided medical help.
