Airtel welcomes govt move to allow infrastructure sharing

New Delhi, Apr 1 (UNI) Leading telecom service provider Bharti Airtel today welcomed the government initiative to allow active infrastructure sharing and termed it as a ''postive step'' to improve the telecom penetration, beside bringing down the operating cost.

''We welcome the government's initiative of sharing of active infrastructure. We believe this is yet another positive step by the government to improve the penetration of telecom services, particularly in rural areas,'' Company President and CEO Manoj Kohli said in a statement.

It will also provide the industry with an opportunity to bring down its operating costs and hasten network roll-outs, he added Mr Kohli said the customer stands to benefit the most in terms of better quality and enhanced affordability.

''As a company that has pioneered sharing of passive mobile telecom infrastructure in the country, Bharti Airtel will now commit to do so in active networks with new vigour.'' he said.
