Spitfire to take to the skies again after 90 years

London, Mar.31 : The only Spitfire to have fought in the Battle of Britain will take to the skies again on Tuesday to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Air Force.

As it soars over the RAF Museum in Hendon, it will be an appropriate time to reflect on the history of the fighting force that saw off the might of the Luftwaffe and the sacrifice of thousands of men and women who died serving their country.

Some 700 memorial events are planned for this year by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, set up to provide a monument to the servicemen and women of the RAF.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, where a crew of 25 full-time engineers maintains fleets of historic planes, including the Spitfire P7350.
