Ujjain, MP, Mar 31 (UNI) Five second-rung workers of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India, who were arrested at 0430 hrs today in this district's Unhel town, were remanded to police custody until April 7.

''An Ujjain police team's interrogation of SIMI members, recently apprehended at Indore, led to the arrest of the workers who were meeting behind a flat belonging to Jadil Pervez, the younger brother of SIMI office-bearer Aamil Pervez who was nabbed at Indore,'' Inspector-General M P Dwivedi said at a press conference this evening.

SIMI-related books and posters were among material seized. All five -- aged between 20 and 30 -- had criminal records. Ayaz alias Ashu served in prison under the National Security Act. Seized literature revealed that Ayaz and Jadil took part in SIMI training, including marksmanship.

''Interrogation also revealed details of formation of a Shaheen Force of the SIMI women's wing. Four women's names have come to light,'' the officer said.

Superintendent of Police Manmeet Singh Narang said this district's Nagda's Judicial Magistrate Umesh Kumar Shrivastav remanded Jadil alias Saifuddin Qazi (30), Ayaz , Akbar, Mehruddin Sheikh and Irshad Ali to custody.

Thirteen SIMI members, including office-bearers, were recently apprehended at Indore.
