New Delhi, Mar 31 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Monday said that the international community should consider creating financial mechanisms that will promote environment friendly technologies and transfer of such technologies to developing countries.

He also said that such mechanisms would promote environmentally sustainable development to deal with the challenge of global warming and climate change.

The Prime Minister expressed these views at a meeting to discuss a Strategy Paper on Climate Change prepared by Lord Nicholas Stern, I.G. Patel Professor at the London School of Economics.

Lord Stern endorsed Dr Singh's proposals made at the G-8 Summit at Heiligendamm, Germany, last year.

Lord Stern also commended India's efforts to understand and address the challenge of climate change.

The Central Government is presently awaiting the National Action Plan on Climate Change to be drawn up by the Prime Minister's Council on Climate Change.
