NLC contract workers to intensify agitation
Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Mar 31 (UNI) Contract workers of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), near here, have decided to intensify their ongoing agitation, demanding regularisation among other things.
About 2,000 contract workers laid a siege to the NTC office after a meeting with the management, convened by Assistant Labour Commissioner Dharmarajan, which failed yesterday.
Today, the talks proved to be a non-starter as members of the AITUC were not called to the negotiating table.
The 13,000-odd contract workers, who were on a strike since Saturday, have decided to embark on a fast tomorrow and resort to a picketing agitation in front of three mines and three thermal power stations of the NLC from April 2 to 7.
However, police have not granted permission for the agitations.
About thousand police personnel have been deployed in Neyveli in view of the strike.
The NLC management claimed that the strike had no impact on power production.
