Auto driver arrested for assaulting passenger
Puducherry, Mar 31 (UNI) Police arrested an autorickshaw driver on charges of assaulting a passenger and snatching away Rs 45000 from his possession on the night of March 28.
Police said yesterday Abdul Jabaar(62) of Ariyankuppam, a merchant came to the Puducherry bus stand from Thiruthanni and hired an autorickshaw to go to Ariyankuppam past midnight on Friday. On the way, the driver Velankanni assaulted him and snatched his money.
The injured Jabaar was admitted to the government general hospital. Based on a complaint from him, the driver was arrested, police added.
