35 prisoners booked for rioting, damaging property
Jalandhar, Mar 31 (UNI) Police has booked 35 prisoners for indulging in violence and damaging government property in the Central Jail here yesterday.
Police today said that all the 35 prisoners, responsible for riots and damaging jail property had been booked under sections 436 and 427 of the IPC and section 10 for damaging government property.
Yesterday, the prisoners, agitated over the death of an inmate, had thrown stones at jail staff and set some heaps of waste material on fire. Police had resorted to firing five rounds in the air to quell the protesters.
Meanwhile, police sent the viscera of undertial Jaspal Singh, who died yesterday in the jail, for chemical analysis to forensic lab in Patiala and heart for histopathological examination to Medical College, Amritsar.
