Tinsukia, Mar 31: Eighteen hardcore militants of three banned outfits, including ULFA, surrendered at the Army base camp at Dinjan in Assam's Tinsukia district today.

All the 18 cadres, including a woman, belonged to the ULFA, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and NSCN (K). 13 of them were ULFA cadres, one each from NSCN(K) and NSCN(IM) and three from National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB). Most of the surrendered ULFA militants are from the dreaded 28th Battalion of the outfit, which remained most potent in Upper Assam, responsible for most of the bombings.

They surrendered before GOC of 2Mn Division major General Jatinder Singh and Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner K K Dwibedi.

The militants have deposited one AK 56 rifle, seven pistols, three revolvers and some live ammunition.

Amongst the surrendered are Pradeep Gogoi, Jogen Willey and Joystna Barua, the lone women cadre. She joined the ULFA in 2003.

Later a rehabilitation centre of the surrendered militants also opened.
