Prachanda meets Nepal; assures to discipline unruly cadres
Kathmandu, Mar 30 : In an attempt to improve their relations, Maoist chairman Prachanda and Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal met on Sunday.
During the meeting, the UML complained about the recent attacks on its election campaigners by Maoist cadres and asked the Maoist leadership to check the unruly activities of the Young Communist League (YCL).
The UML told Prachanda that the highhandedness of Maoist cadres would further complicate the situation.
"Prachanda assured that he would issue a strict circular to the grassroots cadres not to attack the cadres of rival parties. Now it is to be seen if his assurance changes the situation on the ground," UML leader Amrit Bohara told Nepalnews.
Both the leaders also discussed the general security situation in the country in the run up to the April 10 Constituent Assembly polls as well as the possibility of electoral alliance between the two parties.
Though there was no clear understanding between the two leaders, they agreed to continue dialogue, and are likely to meet tomorrow.
